The Connected Generation with Nike Anani

Oct 16, 2020

In the last week, Nigerian millennials and GEN Zs have come together to protest against great human rights violations, widespread police brutality. It feels like the fight of our lifetime to free our children from the shackles of colonialism and military oppression. Though technically speaking, Nigeria became independent in 1960 and evolved into a democracy in 1999, the legacy of these oppressive, exploitative regimes runs deep.

As the next generation, we have to be prepared to get our shovels out in unearthing systemic rot cemented in our social, economic and political systems, keeping our eyes focused on the goal ie to free our children from such a crippling system, to create a better world for them.

We have the opportunity of a lifetime so that our kids are enabled to be solutions-bringers to the world: that teach the world something unique Africa has to offer, rather than being perpetual importers and dependents on the rest of the world's capital, culture, knowledge and solutions. Let's change the narrative to show the world what we have to offer.
