Hidden Risks in Wealth Succession with Dominik v Eynern and Doris Sommavilla

Dominik holds a BSc in Economics and a MSc in finance. After working in the international investment banking industry and co-founding a family office, he researches family dynamics in the context of business families. Dominik comes from a business family, now in its 5th generation and combines his own experience in family dynamics with insights from complexity theory, cognitive neuroscience and behavioural economics.

Doris is a Director of Stonehage Fleming within the Family Office Division where she draws on her experience in succession planning/family governance, both as a 3rd generation entrepreneur and as an advisor to other family businesses.

 

Doris is a Non Executive director of her family business, mainly focused on hospitality and real estate. She inherited her family business abruptly as nothing was planned. She struggled to find my role being the youngest woman back then. She then decided to take the lead on a project to help increase diversification of investments and roles within my family business. This is how she earned her credibility towards her senior family members and external stakeholders.

 

Leveraging on her own experiences, she co-founded Family Hippocampus - an independent network of family businesses where members mentor each other, conduct research and publish articles on succession & diversity matters. Here she likes to focus on promoting the role of women in family business and the importance of mutual support across generations.

 

Doris is an investment manager with over a decade of experience in dealing with alternative investments. She first worked for Allianz Global Investors in Italy, then for PIMCO in Germany where she was in charge of institutional mandates. More recently she was appointed as Principal at Blu Family Office based in the UK where she was in charge for providing investment advice on alternative investments to UHNWIs and family businesses.

 

She studied finance at Bocconi University. She is a qualified family officer at IFFO, a member of CISI and CAIA. She is involved in philantrophy with Skychildren.org.  She loves to support projects that provide access to education and healthcare services to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
